MAINTENANCE
TO KEEP YOUR HOME FOR A LONG TIME
MAINTAINING YOUR OUTDOOR FIREPLACE
Maintaining an outdoor fireplace is relatively simple. By following these tips, you will be able to protect your investment for a long time.
-
We recommend applying high temperature paint to the fireplace surface once a year, towards the end of summer. You can obtain high temperature paint in hardware stores, renovation centers or directly from Foyer des Forges. This paint application is highly recommended, as is rustproofing on your car.
-
Be sure to place your fireplace on a uniform surface, preferably gravel, concrete, paving stones or stone, to avoid any risk of combustion under your fireplace.
-
Inspect the spark arrestor screens during storage for the following season to make necessary repairs, if necessary.
-
Clean your outdoor fireplace after each use to remove damp ashes that cause corrosion.
-
Spray a thin layer of olive oil after each use and once the fireplace has cooled. This will create a protective rust-proof layer until the next use. A slight smoke will be released the next time it is lit for a short time.
To prepare your fireplace for winter storage, you have two options:
1. Store your fireplace protected from bad weather and dry, such as in a garage, shed or shed.
2. Otherwise, leave it outside unprotected (without tarpaulin) because tarpaulins or polythenes can retain moisture and accelerate surface rust.
The advantage of using a spark arrestor mesh that complies with Sopfeu standards is to protect you against volatile embers which could cause a fire to start.
